Our Story

How Tham Counsel Came to Be

Tham Counsel was founded in Bangkok by legal practitioners who had spent years observing how often individuals came to pension-related legal questions with no clear place to turn. The institutions that manage pension funds, the agencies that oversee retirement entitlements, and the formal processes involved in raising a dispute are all complex territory — particularly for those who find themselves facing these matters without professional support.

Our founders recognised that what was missing was not simply legal knowledge, but a setting in which clients could feel genuinely heard and unhurried. Too often, legal advice is delivered in a way that creates more anxiety than it resolves. We set out to build a practice where the opposite is true.

The name Tham — meaning "to ask" in Thai — reflects this commitment. We begin every engagement by asking, not advising. We listen before we speak. From that foundation of understanding, we offer the clearest, most practical guidance we can.

Our Mission

What Guides Our Work

Direction Without Pressure

We provide a clear account of the options available, then step back. Every decision belongs to the client. We are here to inform, not to steer.

Depth of Focus

By concentrating exclusively on pension law, we develop deeper knowledge of the relevant frameworks, precedents, and administrative practices than a general practice could maintain.

Respect for Each Situation

No two pension matters are alike. We treat each case as its own, bringing fresh attention rather than fitting situations into standard templates.

Our Standards

How We Conduct Our Practice

Each of our professional commitments exists because we believe it makes a genuine difference to the experience and outcome for clients.

Registered Legal Practice

Tham Counsel operates as a registered legal practice under the relevant Thai Bar provisions. Our practitioners hold current licences and maintain ongoing professional development requirements.

Client Confidentiality

All client communications, case documents, and personal data are handled under strict confidentiality protocols. We do not share information beyond what is directly required for your matter.

Clear Written Agreements

Before any work begins, we provide a clear written engagement letter setting out the scope of our services, the fees, and what you can expect. There are no surprises in what we do or what we charge.

Thorough Case Review

We review all relevant documents and consider a matter from multiple angles before advising. A careful review at the outset helps us provide guidance that is grounded in the full picture.

Regular Client Updates

We commit to keeping clients informed at every meaningful stage. You will always know what has happened, what we are doing next, and what you can expect in the coming period.

Personal Data Protection

We hold and process personal data in accordance with the Thailand Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Clients are informed about how their data is used, and their rights are fully respected.

About Our Work

Pension Legal Matters in Bangkok — What We Know and How We Help

Pension matters in Thailand sit at the intersection of employment law, social security regulation, and, in some cases, private fund arrangements. For individuals navigating these areas — whether reviewing a decision about their entitlement, seeking to understand a fund's position, or managing a long-term pension arrangement with changing circumstances — the legal dimension can feel distant and hard to approach.

Tham Counsel works specifically within this space. Our familiarity with the Social Security Act, the Government Pension Fund framework, the Private School Teachers Aid Fund, and related administrative processes gives us a practical understanding of the institutions and processes our clients are dealing with. When we advise, we draw on direct experience of how these bodies operate and what outcomes are achievable.

Our clients include Thai nationals, expatriates working in Thailand, and individuals who have returned to Thailand after working abroad. Each situation carries distinct considerations, and we take those into account carefully. Whether you are at an early stage of understanding your position or actively seeking to review a formal decision, we can provide the level of support your circumstances call for — without overcomplicating the matter or pushing you towards more involvement than you need.

Bangkok's legal landscape for pension matters has grown in complexity over recent years as more formal review channels have opened and regulatory expectations have developed. Tham Counsel's focused practice means we remain closely informed of these developments and can apply that knowledge directly to client situations.

Speak with Someone Who Will Listen

If you have a pension question that has been sitting unanswered, we would be glad to offer a calm, unhurried conversation to help you understand where things stand.
